New Dap Reinforcement Design
     and
Load Testing Program

Goal: Change the dap design concept from an analogous truss model and free equilibrium concepts to a model based on various potential failure modes described on PCI Design Handbook 6th Edition section 4.6.3.

Benefits:

􀂃 Elimination of bearing plate, therefore elimination of potential corrosion problems

􀂃 Reduced bed setup time and reinforcing is easier to handle by the crew.

􀂃 Better concrete cover and elimination of possible release cracks due to compression stress on the hanger steel.

Load test Program:

A load test program was developed using 6 different full size DTs (10DT24 by 60’-0”). Each Tee was loaded in 4 load stages in order to evaluate the performance of the different dap configurations (6”, 8”, 10”, 12”). Each load stage simulated a specific load condition:

Phase 1, simulates service load for a parking garage floor level load (LL).

Phase 2, simulates service load for an office building floor load.

Phase 3, simulates service load for a parking garage roof level load (LL+Snow).

Phase 4, is the design strength of the DT used for this test.

Daps performed as expected.
