- Installing
safely eleven (11) 120’-0 tall precast cores for the ArraBelle project in
Vail, Colorado became the first order of business for management. The idea
of stacking precast boxes was immediately observed as a good solution. It
insured immediate stability and it would possibly shorten the erection
duration
-
Monolithic casting of panels also would greatly improve
the capacity for the cores to restrain the massive lateral loads. In
several cases the loading is so severe that 60 - #11 bar NMP splice sleeves
spaced at 4” o.c. was required in one 8’-0 X 8’-0 elevator core.
-
Casting of the cores vertically also allowed for both
sides of the walls to receive a smooth form finish and improve dimensional
controls in all three dimensions. Savings to the owner was also recognized
via deleting the fire caulk with vertical joints eliminated. The deleted
joints eliminated unattractive welded connections and the disruption to the
finishing of the walls.
